Storytelling is the connective twine of my work.
A Midwest native at heart, I love photography for the anthropological aspect. Weaving visual narratives is a juggling act between intimacy and objectivity, stills and video, print and web - the appropriate balance changing by subject, time and self perspective. When the balance is right it can expand the mind, communicate awareness, and preserve the moment.
I worked for years at newspapers and as the journalism world changed I adapted and chose to shift my focus to working in health, education and conservation - issues I discovered I most cared about after traveling and documenting in over 40 countries and living abroad from Europe to Asia to Central America.
Throughout the years, I've gotten lost in the Moscow metro, spent a summer sleeping in Mongolian gers, and almost been kidnapped in Morocco - preserving the surreal and beautiful all along the way.
Currently I'm based in Chicago and am known to leave for adventure with less than 24 hour notice.
